Artist Statement

In remembering the very first day I started to paint. Newly divorced, wanting only to be home with my son. Having lots of energy and without thinking about it too much, I went out to the garage, took an old 5 foot by 5 foot canvas and started painting over it with household paints and whatever was within reach. I painted and painted and painted. It was the perfect release for me.

After several months of non-stop painting, I had several pieces finished, and out of these there was one that gave me great joy. It showed me that this was a path I should follow, a sign to my heart to continue. Based on this painting and the drive to keep painting, I built a large studio and spent many satisfying nights- and days- painting to the accompaniment of loud music and friends.

I've come to realize what the heart of my painting is about. It is a connection to forces greater than myself. I have learned to remove myself and let the flow of energy translate into the painting. I understand this through my work with Reiki, which is a healing practice that utilizes the life force energies throughout the universe. This life force energy moves through me and into the paintings. I can let my personality wander off while some other part or parts do my paintings, or, as in Reiki, the energy work of healing.

This deeper understanding is that it is not so much about my ideas or my talents, but of mastering letting go and attuning to a higher frequency and powers and then channeling these into the paintings and my life. This source is what truly inspires all of my art. As healing sessions provide an opening into greater health and understanding, these paintings are gifts of creation for others and myself to enjoy. It is a pleasure and honor to be part of this process that expresses the mystery and beauty of the Universe.
